Have Some Media

Lots of new stuff for you to see and hear these days. As everyone and their grandma already knows, Marvel vs Capcom 2 is being ported to XBLA and PSN. All of the obligatory 'Take you for a ride', Mahvel Baybee and Curleh Mustache (audio NSFW on that link) jokes have already been made.

I'm more excited about Garou coming out on the 360 myself. Hope it makes it to the US.

Yammering About Comics (pt 3)

Still yammering, but a bit abbreviated, as I have a lot to get through.

Wonder Woman #30
(Rise of the Olympian pt 5)
Diana has had enough of Cheetah's bs and is going to get to Genocide, no matter what. More talk of 'manazons' and Zeus, like the classical version, seems to be a bit of a jerk.
Final Thought: Awesome sauce.

Street Fighter II Turbo #5
Back stories of Cammy & E Honda, continue. Extra insert of C. Viper in the back. Much like Street Fighter Legends, Udon continues their great work. A must for any SF fan.
Final Thought: Love it.

X-Force/ Cable Messiah War parts 1&2
Good art, okay story. It's likely that I'm biased against this one because I'm not a fan of time travel OR Cable. Appearance by a crazed Deadpool lightens things up.
Final Thought: Meh.

The Flash: Rebirth #1
This was loaned to me by a friend. The only Flash I am even remotely familiar is Wally. They gave as much backstory as they could buuut I still have no idea who the villians are in the series. I am sure that if I knew more about the Flash, that I'd likely be peeing my pants.
Final Thought: Need more info.

X-Men Legacy #222
Danger is going batty and Rogue continues on her Danger-induced pilgrimage. Hard to take Shi'ar pirates seriously.
Implications that Rogue's quest was an accident. This irritates me.
Final Thought: Waiting to see how this continues.

Uncanny X-Men #507 (Manifest Destiny)
Manifest Destiny is still going on? Oh. Right. ?_?
Eeeeverybody is getting attacked by something or another. Good battle issue. I sometimes prefer these over a wall of text. A nod to Dark Reign and the Uncanny Annual as well as the return of a huge villian at the end. (no I am not saying who)
Final Thought: 'Snot bad at all, eagerly awaiting Madelyne Pryor & Spiral next issue.

Phew, got done in time for this week's books. I hope to get to the shop more often than I do thus far. :P

on tap: more of the same and probably a smidge of manga.

More Yammering About Comics (opinion)

Street Fighter Legends: Chun Li #2
Ah, the beautiful art of the Udon crew. It still stands strong. Chun Li's origin tale continues with some new characters and a little more characterization of her father. Also starring Sagat (boo) and Dan (yay!) (and a mystery guest at the end – no spoilers!)
Dear Udon crew: You continue to rock. Please proceed.
Final Thought: A great telling of Chun Li's origin, with some really moving scenes.

X-Force #13 (Messiah War 'prequel')
Always solid art and a strong storyline as well. THIS is how you end a book with a serious cliffhanger (which is apparently not addressed in the Messiah War “One Shot”.
Dear Kyle & Yost – Please keep on keepin on. I have high hopes that the Wolfsbane story goes somewhere, because it didn't go into Messiah War and I feel like that's a good thing.
Final Thought: Great book, wish it didn't force the crossover issues on me.

Got through a giant mass of comics last night as well. Will post on those later. :)

Last 4 weeks of comics (opinion)

So I'm a little behind on comics these past few weeks but I am catching up now. I'm going to make you suffer through some brief thoughts on the books I've read.

First plucked from the massive pile:
Secret Six #8
Our favorite villains go out on a double date. Not the most exciting issue ever, but made me smile a lot. Dear Gail Simone: please never leave this book.
Final thought: Awesome, as usual.

followed by:
Elektra: Dark Reign #1
Elektra literally speaks only 4 words in this issue (and two are illegible) but it doesn't matter. The book gives a very tense vibe and in the end, shows the reader what a bad ass Elektra is and why she should be feared.
Dear Zeb Wells: I am not familiar with your work, but if it's all like this, I am in for the long haul and shall follow you loyally.
Final thought: FINALLY, Elektra rules again!

then:
All New Savage She Hulk #1 (Dark Reign tie in)
Urgh, I have no idea where to begin. I literally facepalmed a few times while reading it. Writer Fred Van Lente does a bait and switch for this book and it mainly features Lyra, child of Hulk and Thundra.
Dear Fred Van Lente: Not much Jen Walters in this issue, but I have my doubts you can salvage her from the mess she's in.
Final though: Oh gawd, please get better next issue. I don't know if I can handle all this camp.

FINALLY:
X-Factor #41 (not a Dark Reign tie in? wut?)
Peter David continues with the surprises in this book (and has requested no spoilers for the previous 2 issues, so there's nothing I can say at this point that ISN'T one). However, the formula gets a little thin and ends yet again with the 'HEY SURPRISE A TWIST' on the last page.
Final Thought: Wolfsbane isn't around any more. Why am I still reading this. Meh.

Wolverine DL = KaFIRED

There was a leaked version of the new Wolverine movie out on April 1. Many people thought it was a hoax, but it was really a copy of the movie. An unfinished, without many special effects copy, but a copy nonetheless. I didn't download it because I want to see the movie in the theater. However, some idiot at Fox News downloaded it AND posted a movie review on it, after 20th Century Fox has said that they were coming after people who had downloaded it. (apparently there's some way they can track it) Anyway, thank goodness, idiot journalist got fired over the incident. Read the details of said idiot's layoff at BBC News.

Black Widow Anime-Style

Found this at Kid Nemo Company. Anime style Black Widow, it's pretty swank.

From Kid Nemo - This original piece has been specially illustrated by one of leading Japanese animation style illustrator Shunya Yamashita. Also known for design of Final Dantasy [sic] X characters. To further promote our MARVEL line, Kotobukiya plans to open up a new product site that specializes in Marvel products early 2009!

Sex & Violins...errr...Violence!

A little late on the "news" front, but worth a mention. There's going to be an X-Force 3 issue mini titled 'Sex & Violence' - mainly starring Wolverine and Domino.

"It seemed the most exciting pairing, frankly," Yost admits. "Ever since we brought Domino onto the team, we wanted to explore the very adult dynamic between the two, but with X-Force being as story driven as it is, it didn't seem like we were going to have time."

*add perverted old lady laugh here*
Oh, I am SO looking forward to this.

Read the article with the writers here, at marvel.com.

Elektra Returns!

Finally, one of the big events of Secret Invasion will be given some details. When Elektra was replaced by a Skrull (which was one of the big reveals), I wondered immediately where she was and what she was going to do IF they brought her back. Marvel delivers with Dark Reign: Elektra. It's a 5 part mini series that I really need to add to my pull list at the comic shop. I don't know that I can wait for the trade on this one. Check out Marvel's news post on it here:

She's been broken, beaten, and tortured by aliens…now she returns for vengeance in DARK REIGN: ELEKTRA

Great News from Marvel

The X-Men Animated series from the early 90s (this one) will be on dvd! Excitement! I had the theme song as my ring tone forever.
(via newsarama)

Wolverine and Domino steam things up in the new X-Force miniseries Sex & Violence. *drool*

Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers
are also getting a miniseries. With Thor Frog. Yes, Thor Frog. Awesome.

More Delicious Wolverine

Well, delicious to me at least. Hugh Jackman is easy on the eyes. Kotaku reports that the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game site has opened. Since that is one long mouthful of a name, the site is just named uncaged.com. You can register (bleh) online for "exclusive" access (that will likely appear elsewhere on the internet in a matter or hours) to Wolverine Origins game info. In addition to game information, they have a link to the official movie site as well. (which is here, in case you forgot)

Spidey + Obama = BFF

So you've probably already heard about Spider Man #583 (it's all over mainstream news) - Spidey spots an Obama clone and kicks it's butt at the inaguration. However, for those of us that are comic geeks but don't read Spider Man - if you wanted a copy and it's not on your pull list, odds are not looking great for getting a copy the first printing of the book. It's already sold out at distributor level.

I'll probably hop on the bandwagon for the second printing. While this is super gimmicky, with the recession and the waning popularity of print media - I don't blame Marvel for doing this. It will be a good shot in the arm for the local comic shops.

Anyway, more details on the print runs and information that is relevant to comic book geeks read the Newsarama post.

Selene is Back.

Ahhh it was wonderful enough that the Hellfire Club was making a resurgence, then even better than Madelyne Pryor was on the way back as well. Now Marvel continues to warm my fangirl heart with Selene returning in X-Force.

"Chris and I (writers Craig Kyle and Chris Yost,) are all about brining back the classics," he relates. "The old characters and stories are still the best. That said, we needed someone new to help strengthen the Selene and Bastion arcs. By the next issue you'll see that even though Eli is new to the books, he is old to the Marvel Universe."

I think this is a really good way to write books. There are so many cool old characters that need a dusting off, plus they keep it fresh with the new guys.

Read the entire article/ interview here
and read about Selene and her powers here, at ComicVine.

(ps, I find that most pics of Selene aren't really SFW. Go fig ;p)

She Hulk : Cosmic Collision

In a strange twist of Marvel though processes, She Hulk got a one shot, double sized book after her regular ongoing series was announced to be canceled. It's called She Hulk : Cosmic Collision. It features the Lady Liberators and is full of awesome.

Oddly enough, it's written by Peter David who has previously put Shulkie on the emo train. This book takes her back to a more positive place (although it has sad bits). It's She Hulk as it should be and frankly, a bit of a slap in the face to fans. It's like PAD is saying 'I was always capable of writing in this style, I just chose not to'. Thanks PAD, show us how great it could have been before you dump us.

Rogue Reappears in XMen Legacy

FINALLY.

Interview at Newsarama.com with Mike Carey on the return of Rogue and how she interacts with Xaiver and an attempt to control her powers. Hope this arc is good. I am hopeful.

Animal Themed Marvel Characters

I am really digging Marvel's Twitter Surveys (and not just the ones I think up! Heh!) The most recent Twitter survey is as follows:

Who's your favorite animal-themed Marvel character (not just named after an animal like Wolverine)?

Thery're tying this in with their 'Take 10' list. Now, Wolverine and/or Spiderman are likely to win, but let's think outside of the box shall we? I voted Wolfsbane. (hell yesh!)

As usual, Marvel's Twitter feed is here if you want to vote too.

Marvel Likes My Survey Suggestion

Haha!

Well, me and a gentleman by the name of Mike thought up the same survey question for Marvel's Twitter Survey.

Who is your favorite X-Men member who's NOT Wolverine?

Now don't get me wrong, I love Wolvie. However, asking 'favorite X-Man' to the internet is kind of a foregone conclusion. Naturally, I responded with Rogue.

Marvel's Twitter feed is here if you'd like to add your response. (Twitter acct needed ^^)
