Twitter Friday

Hey all, (all 10 of you, hahah!) I finally got the Cannonball achievement a couple nights ago! Good times! Shaving that time from 6 min to 4 mins is going to be very difficult for me. I feel plenty fast now. Moving on, GIJoe: Rise of Cobra opens tonight, you going? I am :)

In comics news, seems Bill Willingham had some issues with his Fables panel at SDCC. I really appreciate what he tried to do for his fans. Fabletown vs San Diego

Have Some Media

Lots of new stuff for you to see and hear these days. As everyone and their grandma already knows, Marvel vs Capcom 2 is being ported to XBLA and PSN. All of the obligatory 'Take you for a ride', Mahvel Baybee and Curleh Mustache (audio NSFW on that link) jokes have already been made.

I'm more excited about Garou coming out on the 360 myself. Hope it makes it to the US.

And some good news for your ears. AnimeVice now has a podcast (called a Squadcast)
So far, short eps, but hey, we've all got too many dang podcasts

Arcana Heart 2 - Not so sugoi....

Play Asia's weekly newsletter arrived in my email box today - heralding the arrival of Arcana Heart 2 - (aka Suggoi! Arcana Heart 2). I was all ready to lament my lack of funding (and a Japanese ps2) until I read the comments on the info page for the game. All of the commenters agree that this is, in fact, a horrible port that should be avoided at all costs.

vespene (16) on 08, Apr. 2009 13:24 (HKT) Horrible port, avoid! This game is nothing like the original. The slowdown is incredibly bad and it occurs whenever a combo happens. The game only runs accurately when you move left and right, but when you try to actually DO anything, it becomes all choppy and slower than the arcade original. Avoid.

So, one would guess that it won't get to the US at all OR if you're an optimist, that it will get upgraded to a system that can handle the graphics; because the ps2 isn't up to the task.

That all being said, the arcade stick for the game is SWANK. Got a spare 150 for it?

Pokemon on Twitter

So. Epic.

Right now Cloyster is my favorite Pokemon to follow, mainly because he's got a really odd way of speaking, combined with copious use of profanity.

example: I tell ye most true, brethren: Doth anyone actually *like* Zubat? Mine first thought hath been "Unhallowed bag of douches" he be.

Joystiq made a list of Pokeman you can follow too. Dig it here: http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/the-pokemans-we-want-you-to-follow-them/

Kuroshitsuji Cosplay

Good grief, this is good. 0_0 In Japan they have cosplay shops so it's easier to make costumes, but even if they had them over here, the attention to detail in these pics is just epic.

(ps, the site is in Russian, but you didn't want to read the comments anyway, right?)

Link Drop - Atlus Compels Me to Game edition

Gaming... I still do it! I swear! It's just in smaller doses these days - as seen by my focus on casual games on the Wii and DS games I can take with me.

Well I caved in today and put a fiver down on Izuna 2. I will allegedly get a mini poster upon pickup. Atlus really sold me on the new tag system and the crapton of playable characters added. Well done Atlus, you win this round.

Speaking of Atlus, they sent me a wonderful email announcing Persona 4. Oh snap! Enjoy this video as much as I did.

in other gaming news:

The Wii gets a fighting game! And it's Castlevania! Neat!

Japan gets a D. Gray Man video game. Meanwhile I turn tints and shades of green with jealousy. Gah I hope this show takes hold in the US like Naruto and Bleach did. It utterly deserves to.

Cool website, nice design - Girls Don't Game

Spend more time online, but maybe a little less money. Yet another MMO is released on the masses - Dream of Mirror Online.

Found a great wii-friendly radio station called Finetune. Check it out, it's good times.

Ooh, I found a random Miyamoto Mii! Yay!

Uncanny X-Men 500 will have two variant covers and while the Turner cover is very nice, the Dodson cover is SWANK AS ALL HELL. I hope it's not ridiculous expensive, but, it probably will be. ;_;

Speed Racer

I don't know if it was the 'down with "the man" theme, or the wonderful color schemes, or both, but it was really a great movie. Go see it in the biggest theater you can find. I think I will end up seeing it again. It really shines on the big screen.

Viz makes with the Live Action

Japanator reports that Viz has licensed a bunch of (rather good) live action movies based on anime. The titles are Lovely Complex, Honey & Clover, Nana & Nana 2. The odds of me seeing or owning these movies is quite high.

I wonder though, how long till the Love*Com anime gets licensed? It's already complete (and they usually don't bother waiting till the last eps have shown if a company is serious about licensing a series - I am looking at YOU, Wallflower.)

*ding ding* Shojo Mojo Round 2!

"150,000 votes later...you narrowed down the original 16 shojo boys to just 8." and Momo didn't make the cut ;_; It's okay, I love him regardless.

Tokyopop's Shojo Mojo contest has hit round two. Go forth and vote for ther pretties!

Surely you can give Gojyo from Saiyuki some love. He's up against Sanzo in his bracket, but I think he can win!

Negima Live Action Trailer

Originally found at Narutard

So, this is how you fit around 30 supporting characters into a movie trailer 0_0; Geez, look at the yearbook pic at the very end if nothing else. Oh and Negi is played by a girl...and no one is surprised.

Aniago Girls: Creepy Squared.

Via Danny Choo...
"There's a new type of business aimed at Otaku who love 2D girls but cant stand the face of real girls - satsueikai (photo session) of hybrid models called "Anigao" meaning "anime face". "
Read the entire article, with pictures and VIDEO here.

It's a girl, with a giant, unblinking, silent, anime head. So. flippin'. creepy.

Drink Evangelion Coffee, World Explodes

Kotaku, AnimeOnline, Anime News Network and many other anime news sites covered this so I thought I should mention it. (Kotaku has the best pictures though) Evangelion coffee was released back in the day when Eva first came out. It faded away, to bring forth new fan drinks/swag. However, with the Eva series (remake?) coming up this summer, venading machines in Japan are now stocking Eva coffee again.

"The drinks will be sold as individual cans and in cases of 6 cans for 945 yen (about 8.50 US Dollars). The cases include two cans of black coffee with "Don't Drink This" printed on the can, three cans of "LCL" Orange Juice, and a coin bank as an added bonus to people who buy the case."
-a.n.n

Each can seems to have different characters on it. I'm not going to lie to you. I'm not the biggest Eva fan around but if these show up at conventions like the FF Potions did, I'l pick up some Asuka coffee. Well, just as long as they guarantee that it won't cause you to hallucinate and strangle people you love (omg! vague spoiler!) Asuka image snagged here.

NHK pillow to grope...

I almost didn't post about this, but for the sake of otaku news go I.

2D goods maker Cospa has put up a preorder page for a hug pillow featuring Nakahara Misaki, the heroine of Takimoto Tatsuhiro / Ooiwa Kenji’s dark hikikomori comedy Welcome to the NHK. Illustration duty has fallen to the anime staff, who seem to have taken some liberties with her design...

(emphasis by me)
Poor Misaki's pillow image is harmless on one side, but the other side has an illustration of her 'bondage style' - tied up with controller wires & various gaming stuff. She's very distraught about the whole situation. PS2 controller wire in the crotch is bound to upset most anyone. Post with image is here and do I really need to tell you that is it WAY NSFW? I didn't think so.

Eroge Based Fighter / Jigai Makyou opinion

First Melty Blood, (based on Fate/Stay night) then Arcana Heart, followed by Big Bang Beat Heisei Democracy (eternally nsfw, but article should be ok) reports that there is a new fighting game coming out called Nitro Royale Heroines Duel. (note to Japan - shorter titles, we want them!) The characters are being slowly revealed (har har) in Eroge magazine Push!! (ugh...push? was that name really necessary?) So far, most of the fighting games based on Ero games have been well received and fun to play. Big Bang Beat is currently the 'new hotness' in the 2D fighting game world (hey, there is less & less to choose from). Personally, I'd like to see something a little different than the constant lean towards Guilty Gear type fighting controls. (dash, dash, attack...yawn)

In addition, I really would like to see some non-hentai art/ anime of Jigai Makyou, (Flash animation is safe, as for the rest of the site, you're on your own) as the character design is so stunning. (male characters with eyes?! the hell you say!) They did it with Fate/Stay - too bad that was painfully dull. However, i'm not holding my breath for an anime.

Maison Ikkoku Returns to TV

The best news I have heard in a long time.....

animeOnline reports that the live action version of Maison Ikkoku will finally be released (after being announced in 2005)

"The show will begin airing on May 12th at 9pm on TV Asahi. It will continue airing every Saturday from then until…well, eternity, if the drama matches the length of the original 80's TV anime, based on Rumiko Takahashi's manga. For you young'uns who don't understand what the heck we're talking about, Maison Ikkoku follows the inept wannabe college student Godai as he falls in love with and attempts to woo his widowed landlady, Kyoko. Kyoko will be played by the famous actress Misaki Ito, who also played romantic interest Saori in the Densha Otoko J-drama. "

I am ridiculously excited about this. I need to see if/when this is getting fansubbed. (omg, I said the 'f' word!)

Here is the Japanese Maison Ikkoku site. I am sorely tempted to make that index image my wallpaper. Here is the wiki for Maison Ikkoku (you heathens shoud know it!) I really need to buy the rest of this series.
