(Not Very) Secret Invasion

Marvel has releasaed a checklist for their Secret Invasion storyline, as well as it's tie ins. CBR has copied the list and posted it here. How an 8 issue miniseries tunred into a 30+ book crossover, I have no idea. If you prefer a nice postcard sized copy of the checklist, hit up your local comic book shop, they should have a pile to hand out.

In other "pop" news...

A Comics Blog has posted that Gail Simone is writing a comic book featuring Avril Lavigne. (originally found at blog@newsarama.com) Apparently invading my manga aisle wasn't enough...

Gail herself posted a response at scans_daily - (it was stating that the song has a decidedly stalker feel to it)

Bingo. The video is surprisingly black-hearted as well.

And I have to admit, when someone offers me the crazy assignment that should not possibly work, that is catnip to me.

There's a long story why I took this job, but I had a lot of fun and it turned out as a very interesting experiment.

Outreach, outreach, outreach.

Gail

-------------
Gail...you make me a torn little fangirl. You singlehandedly made me adore Birds of Prey again and recommend your run to other geeks. This is a serious stretch. Is this like one of those 'How much do you love me?' questions? Are you holding chocolates behind your back or a flyswatter to beat me about the head and face with? ?_? You've made me invoke the Biting Pear of Salamanca.

Britney "AMV"

So Britney Spears made a music video that has an anime feel to it. It's already been pulled from youtube for some reason, but I found it again (hooray google!) at TV Crunch. (who, in turn found it on myspace tv via Britney's Official MySpace page.) Sorry to break your hearts, but I find that this video is completely non-offensive. (hell, I even looked for the video to buy on iTunes) The song is just a standard pop/dance track and the animation isn't bad at all. Britney is still a strung out idiot, but media vultures picking on this is just silly.

CrunchyRoll.com gets 4 mil. FOUR MIL!

Crunchyroll, a video-streaming website known for offering anime titles without authorization, secured a capital investment of US$4.05 million. Crunchyroll is one of several websites that posts anime and other Asian content through a streaming interface, similar to YouTube, without authorization from or payment to most owners of its content.

This is HUGE. NEWS. FLIPPIN' HUGE.
If they can stream anime legally and support themselves with ads alone, it could revolutionize anime distribution (or lackthereof).

Michael Golden is Good People

Just a quick blurb from my MegaCon weekend that I thought I'd share.

Got to meet Michael Golden, who (along with Chris Claremont) created Rogue. Turns out that Golden, while still a cool guy, is not a 'superhero guy'. He's primarily a graphic designer/commercial artist. Rogue, to him, was essentially a job. Now, this sounds bad, but his goal was to make the readers happy and while he's not attached to her per se, it makes him feel good that everyone loves her. I was very impressed with his thoughts on commercial art and 'the process'. It was really wonderful in an unexpected way. I still told him thanks, job or no job, his work is appreciated. I bought an art book of his (30 clams! oy!) and got him to sign it to me. My friend was worried that I'd be sad that Golden didn't have an attachment to Rogue, but I really thought he was a very interesting person in general. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in his office for one day. He's so professional. Big Dog. *nods nods nods* (oh and he liked manga before manga hit in the US. Respect!) I wish I'd realized he was doing New Exiles covers. I would have gotten issue 2 signed.
